Ald. Coggs sponsors resolutions aimed at increased collaboration, safety, and public health
As part of the 2023 City budget process, Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs sponsored a variety of budget footnotes with the goals of increasing collaboration among City departments, bolstering safety and violence prevention work, and improving public health. This week at various Common Council committee meetings, resolutions to codify the intent of these footnotes will be discussed.
Four additional files will be heard Friday, January 6 at 9 a.m. by the Public Safety and Health Committee. These include:
- File #221280 – resolution directing the Office of Violence Prevention to work with the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation and the Department of Public Works on possible programming for Healing Spaces and City parks.
- File #221282 – resolution directing the Health Department Lead Program to work with the Office of Violence Prevention to develop long-term strategies for lead intervention responsiveness.
- File #221284 – resolution directing the Office of Violence Prevention to develop a community-wide program to train residents in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills.
- File #221287 – resolution directing the Office of Violence Prevention to work with the Department of City Development regarding city programs and properties to develop long-term strategies.
“I believe that violence prevention has to be embedded into everything we do as a city to begin to have an impact on decreasing the extremely high levels of crime we have been experiencing,” said Alderwoman Coggs. “I look forward to discussing the progress made on these efforts later in the year as we continue to work collaboratively to improve Milwaukee for everyone.”
All committee meetings will be streamed live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
