After School Special and WPCA Present: The Fourth Annual Grilled Cheese Grant

The Grilled Cheese Grant (GCG) is an annual fundraising event/micro-grant hosted by local artist collective, After School Special. The grant is designed to provide financial support for undergraduate seniors at The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) and The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) who are working towards completing their senior thesis projects in the areas of Fine Arts and/or Design.
With donated cheese, bread, beer, and supplies from local businesses, grilled cheese sandwiches are served for $5. In addition to grilled cheese, attendees will also receive a ballot to vote for one of five finalists.
Finalists for the Fourth Annual Grilled Cheese Grant were selected by Rose Curley, Erick CK Ledesma, and Julie Niemi.

The amount of money awarded for the grant is based on how much money is raised: 60% of the total
funds is awarded to the artist with the most votes, 25% goes to After School Special/Walker’s Point
Center for the Arts and 15% is donated to a local non-profit.
The grantee and runner-up are announced after all votes are collected and tallied on the day of the event.
The runner-up receives a solo exhibition at a local gallery space in Milwaukee in the Fall of 2019
organized by After School Special.
After School Special is satellite arts organization that supports under-recognized, emerging artists
through exhibitions, events, and collaborative projects and seeks to support young creative individuals
through coordinating programs at various spaces in Milwaukee.
