AFP-WI Responds to Governor Evers’ State of the State Address
Madison, WI – Tonight, Governor Tony Evers gave his seventh State of the State address.
AFP-WI State Director Megan Novak released the following response after the Governor’s address:
“Governor Tony Evers has a distorted memory of his time as governor. The highlights of the State of the State are largely thanks to conservative leadership in our legislature. After seeing Wisconsinites reject another four years of the Biden-Harris agenda and conservatives maintaining a policy majority in the legislature, one might assume his recollection of the past is intentional.
“During the pandemic, Governor Evers proposed raising taxes by $1 billion and last session vetoed multiple middle-class tax cuts. His proposed budgets in the past grew the size of government and put Wisconsin on a path toward a deficit. It is thanks to our principled conservative legislators that Wisconsin is not following in the footsteps of Minnesota or California.
“Tonight, the governor highlighted Wisconsin’s $4.6 billion surplus. It is an insult to the families and businesses across Wisconsin who struggled to make ends meet under Bidenomics. Taking a victory lap on the state earning interest on Wisconsinites’ money is out of touch with reality.
“Wisconsin has a bright future, but Governor Evers’ top-down approach continues to work against us. Unsustainable budget priorities burden taxpayers with the governor’s bill, our students’ success is hindered due to the lack of education freedom, and our state’s $4.6 billion surplus held hostage stifles our economy by keeping hard-earned money out of the pockets of Wisconsinites.
“AFP-WI is committed to working with the legislature to ensure much needed tax cuts make it to Wisconsinites despite Governor Evers track record of vetoes, supporting policies that empower students and families with education choice that best fits their needs, and restoring fair and balanced courts to protect our state from Governor Evers’ progressive takeover.”
