Acclaimed Violinist Jonah Kartman Joins Festival City Symphony for a Captivating Performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto
Milwaukee, January 9, 2025 – On Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 PM, Festival City Symphony will present a thrilling Saturday Classics concert featuring violinist Jonah Kartman at the Bradley Symphony Center. Kartman will perform Felix Mendelssohn’s iconic Violin Concerto, an exhilarating masterpiece that showcases both virtuosity and emotion. The concert will also include Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin and Ludwig van Beethoven’s beloved Eighth Symphony, offering a diverse program that promises to captivate audiences.
Jonah Kartman, a highly regarded violinist based in Chicago, is a member of the Chicago Civic Symphony Orchestra and a substitute violinist for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of the DePaul School of Music, where he studied under Janet Sung and I-Hao Lee. His performances as a soloist have brought him to prominent stages, including with the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and his work has been featured on PBS and WFMT in Chicago.
An avid chamber musician, Jonah has competed in prestigious competitions such as the Pasadena Chamber Music Competition and the Fischoff Music Competition. Recently, he has performed with his family in their own Skyline Trio. Jonah’s parents, Stefan Kartman and Jeannie Yu, are both accomplished musicians with a long history of performances with Festival City Symphony. Stefan is the orchestra’s Principal Cellist and has also appeared as a soloist with FCS, while Jeannie, a renowned pianist, has graced the stage with FCS many times, including multiple concerto performances. Their shared musical legacy adds a unique depth to Jonah’s performance with the orchestra.
Tickets for the concert are free with a suggested donation ($14 for adults, $8 for children, students, and seniors). The concert will be preceded by a special pre-concert talk, “Unlocking the Score,” led by music educator Lynn Roginske at 1:30 pm. This insightful presentation offers audience members of all ages the chance to dive deeper into the music, learning about the themes, harmonies, and unique qualities of each composition. Reservations are required and can be made on the website or at the Bradley Symphony Center box office on the day of the event.
