2024 Milwaukee BBWAA Award Winners Announced
Five Different Players Earn Team Honors
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers announced their 2024 award winners as selected by a panel from the Milwaukee Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA).
Catcher William Contreras was voted Brewers Most Valuable Player for the second straight season after batting .281 with 23 HR and 92 RBI in 155 games. The two-time All-Star led the team in batting average, runs (99), hits (167), doubles (37), OBP (.365), SLG (.466), OPS (.831) and walks (78). He is a nominee for the 2024 All-MLB Team and a finalist for the 2024 Hank Aaron Award.
Myers, who pitched in the farm systems for five organizations (BAL, TB, CLE, SF and CWS) prior to signing with Milwaukee in November 2022, capped his season with five scoreless innings in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Mets. He became the second rookie pitcher in franchise history to start a postseason game, joining Brandon Woodruff (Game 1 – 2018 NLDS vs. COL).
Outfielder Jackson Chourio unanimously earned Brewers Top Newcomer honors after batting .275 with 21 HR, 79 RBI and 22 SB in 148 games. The 20-year-old phenom is the first rookie in franchise history with a 20 HR/20 SB season and the youngest player in big-league history to accomplish the feat.
Chourio, a nominee for the 2024 All-MLB Team, signed an eight-year contract last December 4 which runs through the 2031 season with club options for 2032 and 2033, marking an industry-record commitment for a player without any Major League experience.
Left-handed pitcher Jared Koenig was voted Brewers Unsung Hero. Koenig signed with Milwaukee as a free agent last November 17 and was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. He went 9-4 with a 2.47 ERA and 1 save in 55 games, including six outings as an opener. He held opponents to a .229 batting average while recording 63 strikeouts in 62.0 innings and stranding 25 of 32 inherited runners.
