The Statue of Labor which is also known as “The Pewter Lady” by sculptor Gustav Haug is located in Jackson Park. From 1880 until 1909 the statue stood above the entrance of the Chamber of Commerce building (Mackie Building). In 1909 the statue was moved to Reynolds Grove (Jackson Park) as a gift from the South Division Civic Association. The inscription on the statue’s base reads “May this statue ever be a silent witness to the progress and growth of Milwaukee.”

Marcus DeBack Playground is located at 2461 N. 55th St. In 1996, Wright Street Playground was renamed for Marcus DeBack, a nine year old boy and innocent bystander who was shot and killed on the playground in 1995 while protecting another child.  

Lyons Park

Lyons Park is a 12.9=acre neighborhood park located on the City of Milwaukee’s south side. Part of Milwaukee County Parks system. The park is named in honor of Willard P. Lyons. Lyons was a member of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors from 1924 to 1954. In 1946, the land for the park was acquired. In 1956, development of the park began. The park has these recreation facilities: Pavilion with adjacent wading pool Play equipment area Basketball courts Informal softball field
