Grohmann Museum Gallery Night Event

July 22, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Grohmann Museum, 1000 N. Broadway
Milwaukee, WI 53202 United States

Featuring a Gallery Talk with the Artist at 7:00 p.m. The Grohmann Museum is well known for its outstanding collection of industrial landscape paintings, may from centers of European industry like Germany's Ruhr River Valley. However, more regional and local depictions are less common. This exhibition provides an opportunity to highlight Milwaukee's industry and changing views of the city in post-industrial situations. The works selected for this exhibition-many executed in Michael Newhall's trademark Regionalist/Ashcan style-capture engaging scenes of Milwaukee's urban landscape and provide the viewer an opportunity to reflect on the city's recent past. Newhall has taught art and Buddhism at Naropa University, the Art Institute of Chicago, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and other universities in the Midwest. His works can be found in a number of public and private collections.
