Construction firm buys King Drive building for $500,000

The 14,400-square-foot Ring Building, in Milwaukee’s central city, has been sold for $500,000 to an affiliate of a growing local construction firm. The two-story office building, 1849 N. King Drive, was sold out of receivership by Halewhit Properties LLC, of Germantown, to 1849 MLK LLC, according to state real estate records posted Friday. The buyer’s agents are brothers Jalin, Clifton and James Phelps, who operate JCP Construction LLC. JCP Construction in June received a $240,000 loan from Milwaukee Economic Development Corp., a nonprofit business lender, to help finance the purchase and renovation of the building. PyraMax Bank is the main lender on the $600,000 project, which is creating a new headquarters for the firm. JCP has been based at 2821 N. 4th St., in an underused office building that’s targeted for conversion into mainly loft apartments, to be known as the Welford Sanders Historic Lofts. JCP, launched in 2008, has 37 employees and annual revenue of $5 million to $7 million.
