Fred Clark: Alfonso Should Debate in Wisconsin
NORTHERN WI — After weeks of silence, Michael Alfonso‘s campaign consultants have finally agreed to allow their candidate a televised debate with a Minnesota TV station. The debate is scheduled to take place just weeks before the general election when thousands of Northwoods residents will have already voted. That’s a small start, but it’s not nearly enough.
“After weeks of radio silence, I’m glad to see Michael has finally accepted at least one debate invite, but voters deserve more than that,” said Fred Clark. “With absentee ballots arriving in voters’ mailboxes any day now and given the enormity of the challenges we face because of this Congress’s failures, the least we can do is let the voters see us side-by-side as soon as possible. I’ve made it clear I’m ready for seven debates across the district, and I’m ready to start tomorrow.”
While Fred Clark continues to make appearances and meet with voters throughout Northern Wisconsin, Michael’s campaign cannot seem to get comfortable spending time in the district he claims he would like to represent in Congress. Michael has not accepted any other debate invitations with local media located in the 7th Congressional District, and instead opted to work with a Minnesota affiliate, greatly limiting the number of constituents who will actually be able to watch this debate.
Last week, Alfonso emerged long enough to conduct an interview with disgraced former member of Congress, Matt Gaetz, in Florida and this week Alfonso is in Dallas, TX rather than his district.
“On any given day it’s impossible to know if Michael is in Wisconsin, or if he’s in Florida, with lobbyists in D.C., or even in Texas. Michael doesn’t seem to understand that the most important job of an elected leader is listening to the voters you hope to represent and making the case for why you’ll do the best job,” said Clark.
“Republicans and Democrats in Washington, D.C. have no clue what families in Northern Wisconsin are dealing with — I’m committed to changing that and making sure their voices are represented in the next Congress.”
Clark is actively campaigning across the 7th CD — with stops this week alone in Cable, Merrill, Antigo, Wausau, Osceola, and River Falls — and is available to discuss the challenges facing our communities. Please contact press@clarkforwi.com if you’d like time with the candidate.
