MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – It was announced today that Attorney JOANNA FRACZEK will be seeking election to be a Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge in Branch 1. The Spring Non-Partisan General Election is scheduled for April 6, 2027.

FRACZEK’s judicial campaign will be focused upon public safety and the same holistic approach to the law that has been the hallmark of her legal career. “All Milwaukee County residents, as well as those who work or visit here, deserve a safe community. Reckless driving, for example, is a huge problem that law enforcement cannot tackle alone. A judge should lead with compassion and wisdom to prioritize community safety. That means honoring victims’ loss and suffering, holding offenders accountable, and using every tool in her toolbox, including treatment and restorative justice, to prevent reoffending and help people become productive, contributing members of our community,” said Attorney FRACZEK.

JOANNA FRACZEK was born and raised in Poland, so among her many talents, she speaks Polish, English, Russian, and some German. She visited Wisconsin during her university studies and emigrated to the Milwaukee area after receiving her Master of Law degree from the University of Maria Curie – Sklodowska in 2007. She began forging her unique path to the “American Dream” and becoming a lawyer in the United States.

After settling in the Milwaukee area, she took positions in retail sales, cleaning houses, and child care to support herself, and then obtained a paralegal certificate at Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2009. She was an intern in the Office of State Public Defender in Milwaukee, before becoming a paralegal in the Milwaukee City Attorneys Office, where the attorneys there recognized her work ethic and encouraged her to take steps to be licensed in Wisconsin as an attorney.

FRACZEK passed the Wisconsin Bar Examination and was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Wisconsin and Federal Eastern District of Wisconsin in 2013, before becoming a proud naturalized U.S. Citizen in 2017.

After her admission to the practice of law, the Milwaukee City Attorney’s Office hired her as an Assistant City Attorney in 2013, where she handled primarily civil matters, including liens and enforcement, providing legal counsel to City departments like the Department of Neighborhood Services, Treasurer’s Office, Election Commission, and Ethics Committee, as well as representing the City in Municipal Court. Seeking to broaden her legal experience, she went into private practice in 2018, focused upon civil litigation, mediation, and family law practice in Milwaukee and numerous counties in Wisconsin. She returned to the City Attorneys Office in 2023, where she represents the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Public Schools in civil litigation, as well as representing the City before the Federal U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District. It is this well-rounded legal experience in civil practice and municipal law that she would bring to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

Milwaukee County District Attorney KENT LOVERN endorses FRACZEK, saying, “Joanna Fraczek is a hard-working and fair-minded member of our community. She is an accomplished attorney who I know will be an outstanding judge.”

Milwaukee City Attorney EVAN GOYKE endorses FRACZEK as well, saying, “Attorney Joanna Fraczek has served the City of Milwaukee as a municipal prosecutor, as well as representing the City of Milwaukee in a diverse array of practice areas, for many years. I am proud to endorse her candidacy for Judge in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.”

FRACZEK has demonstrated her commitment to our community by her membership in civic groups including:

Professionally, she is a member of the Milwaukee Bar Association, Eastern District Wisconsin Bar Association, and Wisconsin Bar Association. She is a former board member for the Association for Women Lawyers and board member of Wisconsin Women in Government, organizations dedicated to advancing women in the legal profession and government. She is a former board member and active in the Washington Heights Neighborhood Association, in the neighborhood where her family lives and attends St. Sebastian’s Catholic Parish.

“If the voters do me the honor of electing me judge, it is my promise to treat everyone who appears before me with respect and dignity, faithfully and fairly apply the laws of the State of Wisconsin in the pursuit of justice, and never forget that it is my duty to protect the rights of all parties, while protecting the community we love from harm. I am devoted to the law and the Milwaukee community I chose to make my home almost twenty years ago, where I now raise my daughter, and want a bright future for her and all our children. I look forward to introducing myself to voters all across Milwaukee County, to ask them to place their faith in me, and honor me with their vote for Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge in Branch 1,” Attorney FRACZEK concluded.
