Hopefully you’re hanging in there and still enjoying summer, because even though it’s almost September, there’s still plenty of summer fun to be had in Milwaukee. And while there aren’t any major street festivals or fairs to check out this weekend, there’s still much to see and do.

LuLu Cafe is celebrating 25 years of business and is hosting a block party that will feature food, drinks and live music. SWANS will bring a unique art and musical performance to Veterans Park, and Black Husky Brewing will showcase kittens up for adoption and help raise funds for Cats at Large.

August 29: Riverwest Cat Tour

Black Husky Brewing is hosting the Riverwest Cat Tour, an event that will bring kittens to the normally dog-themed brewery. Guests can meet adoptable kittens while sipping on craft beer and learning about fundraising and donation opportunities for Cats at Large, an organization that focuses on managing Milwaukee’s outdoor cat population. The event will also feature DJ sets, brats, raffles and more. The tour will start at 2 p.m. but the event organizers recommend showing up at 1 p.m.

August 28-29: ‘Graceful Warrior’ at Skylight Music Theatre

Inspired by Gary Sinise’s son McCanna’s battle with cancer, “Graceful Warrior” is an orchestral performance that will feature members of the Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra, singers from Skylight Music Theatre and members of Sinise’s Lt. Dan Band. The show will use personal stories and accompanying video elements to help tell the story, and the performance will be guided by narration from Sinise himself. Proceeds from this concert will benefit Skylight Music Theatre. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased on the Skylight Music Theatre website.

August 29: LuLu’s 25th Anniversary Street Festival

Lulu Cafe & Bar is celebrating 25 years of being a Bay View staple with a block party. The festival will feature food and drinks,family-friendly activities and live entertainment starting at noon. WMSE 91.7 FM will kick off the party with its Boogie Bang program followed by local acts like Sleepersound and The Wisconsin Space Program. The festival is free to attend and will run until 9 p.m.

August 29: 414BigFrank at The Rave

The Garage on Brady Street recently went viral for its (now rescinded) policy on playing music by local rappers. It was a reminder that we need to be supporting our local artists as much as possible, and Milwaukee will have a chance to do just that by catching 414BigFrank at The Rave. The popular Milwaukee rapper will make an appearance as part of his Takeover Tour. Tickets range from $26.75 to $53 and can be purchased on The Rave’s website. The show will begin at 8 p.m.

August 30: Out There Presents: SWANS

As part of the Out There music series, composer Lia Kohl and visual artist Jess Bass are teaming up for SWANS, an outdoor musical and art performance show. The show will take place at Veterans Park and dancers and musicians will climb aboard swan boats, navigating the lagoon in choreographed patterns. The show will feature dancers and musicians from both Chicago and Milwaukee. SWANS is free to attend and will begin at 2 p.m.

August 30: The 4th Annual Wildflowers on the Water

Lakeshore State Park is hosting the fourth annual Wildflowers on the Water, an event that aims to help support the preservation efforts of the Friends of Lakeshore State Park. This family-friendly event will feature live music, sound bowl healing exercises, goat yoga and more. Wildflowers on the Water is free to attend and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
