The Marquette University women’s soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) opens its home schedule Wednesday, Aug. 19, hosting Truman State (0-0-0, 0-0-0 GLVC) at 3 p.m. CT before hitting the road to face Wisconsin (0-1-0, 0-0-0 BIG TEN) Sunday, Aug. 23, at 5 p.m. CT.

MU Opens With Pair of Shutouts

Marquette is 2-0 to start the season for the second time since the 2020-21 COVID-19 season, when the Golden Eagles opened the year 3-0, and 2025, when they also opened the year 3-0.

Marquette’s defensive unit allowed a total of just 12 shots in its first two outings, with just two of those on goal.

Murray Earns BIG EAST Nod

On Monday, the BIG EAST announced Megan Murray as the first BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week of the 2026 season.

Murray helped lead MU to a 2-0 start, pacing Marquette and the BIG EAST with three goals. She recorded her first career multi-goal game in Marquette’s 2-0 win at North Dakota State. Through two matches, Murray has already matched her 2025 goal total of three.

Following the first week of the season, Murray ranks tied for ninth in the NCAA with six points and tied for 15th with three goals.

Hurd Earns BIG EAST Recognition

On Monday, the BIG EAST announced Mia Hurd as the first BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week of the 2026 season.

Hurd made her collegiate debut and helped Marquette open the season with back-to-back shutouts. She recorded two saves across the opening week, including a pair of stops at North Dakota State, while providing a steady presence in goal as the Golden Eagles earned wins in both matches.

Through two matches, Hurd has posted a 2-0 record with two shutouts. She faced 12 shots during the opening week, helping Marquette limit its opponents to just two shots on goal.

A Family Affair

Marquette opens its 2026 home schedule Wednesday, hosting Truman State at Valley Fields at 3 p.m. CT. The match-up carries a unique connection for head coach Chris Allen, who will face his alma mater for the first time as the Golden Eagles’ head coach.

Allen graduated from Truman State in 2002 after transferring to the Bulldogs following one season at Calvin College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science/sports management during his time in Kirksville, Missouri.

Wednesday’s match-up also brings Allen’s oldest daughter, Bailey, to Milwaukee. A senior defender for Truman State, Bailey is one of three children of Chris and his wife, Jodie.

With Chris on the Marquette sideline and Bailey suiting up for the Bulldogs, Wednesday’s home opener will provide a memorable match-up for the Allen family.

Renewing the Rivalry

Marquette travels to Madison Sunday for its in-state rivalry match-up with Wisconsin.

The Golden Eagles and Badgers will meet for the 19th time since 1995, with Wisconsin holding an 11-5-2 advantage. The Badgers have won the last five meetings, including a 2-1 decision at Valley Fields last season.

Despite Wisconsin’s recent run, the series has remained competitive, with three of the Badgers’ last four victories coming by one goal. Marquette is 2-5-0 all-time in Madison.
