Downtown Employee Appreciation Week Returns for 21st Year Week of August 17
Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 to host a week of free lunches, pickleball tournament and after-work events downtown
MILWAUKEE (July 28, 2026) – Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 is teaming up with downtown businesses and organizations to celebrate downtown employees during the 21st annual Downtown Employee Appreciation Week, Aug. 17-21. This spirit week for downtown’s workforce will feature daily activities, including Office Challenge Games, free lunches for the first 1,000 employees each day, wellness sessions and after-work social events.
The celebration begins Monday, Aug. 17 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Red Arrow Park, featuring Mayor Cavalier Johnson and County Executive David Crowley, live music and free lunch for the first 1,000 employees. Free lunch celebrations continue throughout the week from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cathedral Square Park (Tuesday, Aug. 18), Schlitz Park (Wednesday, Aug. 19), Zeidler Union Square (Thursday, Aug. 20) and Pere Marquette Park (Friday, Aug. 21). Each day will include live music and the Office Challenge Games, sponsored by Educators Credit Union, with daily prizes up for grabs. The Milwaukee Bucks Entertainment Network will be onsite daily hosting a basketball shootout.

New in 2026
This year, Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 will host the inaugural I Work Downtown Pickleball Tournament on Monday, Aug. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Red Arrow Park, in partnership with Prolite. The park’s ice rink will be transformed into three pickleball courts, with open play and warmups from 3 to 5 p.m. Register at iworkdowntownmke.com.
On Thursday, Aug. 20, downtown will mark one year since the opening of the Downtown Milwaukee Dog Park with Take Your Dog to Work Day and a Yappy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Employees are encouraged to bring their pets to work or register their office as pet-friendly for the day, then head to the dog park for live music and snacks from Fromm Family Foods.
Returning Promotions
Morning Jolt returns with free coffee at rotating locations from 8 to 9:30 a.m.: Starbucks at Northwestern Mutual Commons (Monday), Fiddleheads Coffee at BMO Tower (Wednesday), Colectivo at U.S. Bank (Thursday) and Draft & Co. (Friday). The first 25 employees at each location each day will receive a Milwaukee Downtown mug.
The World’s Largest Coffee Break returns to Catalano Square on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 9 to 10:30 a.m., featuring coffee and bakery items from neighboring cafes.
Employees can also take a Moment of Movement with free wellness sessions from 7 to 8 a.m.: yoga at Wisconsin Athletic Club – Downtown (Tuesday), Zumba at Turner Hall (Wednesday), Barre3 at Baird Community Commons (Thursday) and yoga with Cathy Stadler at the Milwaukee County Historical Society (Friday). The I Work Downtown Happy Hour + Trivia moves to Your Office, 763 N. Milwaukee St., on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m., with team trivia from 5 to 6 p.m.
On Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 5 to 9 p.m., the Milwaukee Theater District’s It’s Alive! series brings free pop-up performances to the Riverwalk near the Riverside Theater, alongside the Milwaukee Night Market on West Wisconsin Avenue between 2nd Street and Vel R. Phillips Avenue, where 100 free drink tickets will be available at the Milwaukee Downtown info tent for downtown employees.
On Thursday, Aug. 20, PNC Presents Tunes@Noon brings a free midday concert to the courtyard of 411 East Wisconsin Center from noon to 1 p.m., and Cathedral Square Park hosts its market and Jazz in the Park concert series from 3 to 9 p.m.
Downtown Employee Appreciation Week will conclude with a closing ceremony Friday, Aug. 21 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pere Marquette Park, featuring live music, games and free lunch. That evening, NEWaukee‘s Afterlight will run from 6:30 to 11 p.m. along the Milwaukee Riverwalk from Wisconsin Avenue to Erie Street.
Completed Downtown Employee Appreciation Week passports – stamped at three or more events – will be entered into a prize drawing. Passports must be submitted by 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 to a Public Service Ambassador to be eligible.
Downtown employees can also take advantage of week-long discounts, including 25% off self-captained pontoon rentals from Riverwalk Boat Tours & Rentals and free admission to the Milwaukee County Historical Society with proof of employment on Friday, Aug. 21.
