Golden Eagles Finish Strong on Day Three of BIG East Outdoor Championships
Men place fifth and women place seventh in successful showing at conference championships.
STORRS, Conn. — Marquette closed out the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Sherman Sports Complex on Saturday with the men finishing fifth of nine teams with 89.5 points and the women placing seventh of 10 with 46 points, highlighted by a conference title in the javelin and multiple podium finishes.
“What a fun weekend,” Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Bert Rogers said. “We really competed hard and had some top notch performances. Riley winning the javelin was awesome and the men’s 4×400 breaking the school record to finish the meet was a great way to cap off a great meet and season.”
Junior Riley Ward led the way for the Golden Eagles with a BIG EAST title in the women’s javelin, winning with a throw of 46.21 meters to score 10 points, while junior Tessa Hollander added a fifth-place finish at 40.23 meters. Graduate student Haley Schaffer also scored in the women’s triple jump, finishing fifth with a personal-best 12.09 meters that ranks fifth in program history, while sophomore Ally Broaddus placed fifth in the discus at 44.33 meters.
Marquette’s 4×100-meter relay team of Sophia Abraham, Nonic Oelling, Norah Peiffle and Sanai Baker added a fifth-place, season-best time of 47.61 seconds, and sophomore Sara Stout contributed a point with an eighth-place finish in the high jump.
On the men’s side, freshman Mason Cornwell earned a runner-up finish in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 4.60 meters, while sophomore Matthew Ferrario placed fourth. Drew Klopcic added a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 52.34 seconds, which ranks third in program history, sets the Marquette freshman record and meets the USA U-20 qualifying standard. Freshman Blake Frea placed fifth in the 400 meters, and freshman Bobby King recorded a personal-best 21.50 seconds to finish sixth in the 200 meters, which ranks eighth in program history.
Marquette added scoring across the field events as Russell Czerwinski placed sixth in the triple jump with a personal-best 14.30 meters, which ranks ninth in school history, while John Pitta and Jude Anderson also scored. In the javelin, senior Cole Donahe and freshman Tommy Majchrowicz finished seventh and eighth, respectively, and in the discus, senior Josh Pirogovsky added a point with an eighth-place finish.
The Golden Eagles also picked up points in relays, including a sixth-place finish in the men’s 4×100-meter relay and scoring efforts in both 4×400-meter relays, highlighted by the men’s group closing the meet with a school-record performance of 3:10.74.
With the conclusion of Saturday’s meet, Marquette’s 2025-26 season comes to an end.
