MILWAUKEE – County Executive David Crowley continued highlighting National Small Business Month today by celebrating the ribbon cutting of a new small business, Brim Café & Catering, that was awarded $10,000 in grant funding as part of his Building Bridges Program that activates commercial corridors, grows the local economy, and adds value to the community. County Executive Crowley and the business owners were joined by Milwaukee Common Council President José Pérez, Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Caroline Gómez-Tom, and local business leaders, partners, and residents.

County Executive Crowley’s Building Bridges Program provides technical support and resources to small businesses across Milwaukee County to enhance economic development and commercial corridor activation efforts. The goal is to increase available resources to establish or expand brick-and-mortar businesses in Milwaukee County. In total, County Executive Crowley has awarded $10,000 grants to 20 small businesses across Milwaukee County, including Brim Café & Catering. Thus far, the program has leveraged over $4 million in small business investments across Milwaukee County, supporting over 120 jobs in the process.

“My administration continues working to build bridges between entrepreneurs, local governments, and community organizations to fuel economic development in Milwaukee County. Through my Building Bridges Program, we delivered grant funding and technical assistance directly into the hands of local small businesses, so they have the tools to succeed,” said County Executive Crowley. “I am proud we are witnessing the positive impact of this initiative with another new small business opening their doors in Milwaukee’s Lincoln Village neighborhood. At a time when affordability is top of mind for folks across Milwaukee County, we will continue working to activate vacant storefronts, create jobs, and uplift small businesses throughout our community.”

“Small businesses are the heart of our neighborhoods, and I’m thrilled to celebrate the opening of Brim Café & Catering here in the 14th District,” said Supervisor Gómez-Tom. “Through the Building Bridges Program, we are investing directly in local entrepreneurs who are bringing new energy, opportunity, and connection to our commercial corridors in Lincoln Village and beyond. Congratulations to the Brim Café team on this exciting milestone!”

Brim Café & Catering, which opened in 2014 as a catering business, is now expanding to become a premier café in the City of Milwaukee. The Building Bridges grant helped the owners finance the new café space that will feature breakfast and lunch menus with weekly specials, as well as espresso and smoothie items. They have already made a name for themselves by being a preferred caterer for the Milwaukee War Memorial Center, Medical College of Wisconsin, and many more. Brim Café & Catering is located in the Lincoln Village neighborhood.

“Opening this location has been a huge labor of love, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support from the community, our family and friends, and organizations like MEDC, WEDC, Cream City, and Milwaukee County,” said Brittany Wahhab, Co-Owner, Brim Café & Catering. “Our hope for Brim is to create a space that feels welcoming, inspiring, and community centered. We’re excited to continue growing here in Lincoln Village and to serve this neighborhood every day. Thank you again for celebrating with us — we truly couldn’t do it without all of you.”
