Project Clean and Green Comes to the 5th District Beginning May 4th
Alderman Lamont Westmoreland wants to remind residents about the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works initiative Project Clean and Green. The annual citywide neighborhood cleanup is free and will occur from May 4-15 in the 5th District located within Zones 3 and 4. Residents should place their unwanted items at their regular garbage collection point, either curb or alley, by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled day.
Most areas of the 5th District south of W. Hampton Ave. will occur May 11-15 (Zone 4), while areas within the District north of W. Hampton Ave. will occur May 4-8 (Zone 3).
Residents can visit https://tinyurl.com/54aswrsw to find their scheduled collection date, to see which items are not collected/accepted, and full program information.
Alderman Westmoreland reminds residents that lingering leaves or yard waste can be placed in brown paper yard waste bags for collection. A limited supply of 3,000 FREE yard waste bags will be available starting May 6 at ACE Hardware located at 8325 W. Lisbon Ave.
“Clean and Green allows residents to clean out each spring to foster healthier and safer communities while maintaining neighborhoods that the city is proud of. I encourage residents to take part in this citywide initiative to spruce up the neighborhood and as environmental sustainability becomes more crucial to our daily lives,” Alderman Westmoreland said.
In most cases, everything will be picked up on garbage collection day, but please allow through the following business day for all items to be collected. Sanitation crews will collect up to six cubic yards per property of unwanted furniture, mattresses, or household items; they will also collect items damaged by recent flooding. Please note that Project Clean and Green will not collect appliances, tires, electronics, paint, construction debris, computers, and hazardous materials. Please make use of City of Milwaukee Drop Off Centers or MMSD household hazard waste collection sites to safely dispose of those materials.
