NEILLSVILLE, Wis. – Clark County Circuit Court Judge Lyndsey Brunette today announced her candidacy for Wisconsin Supreme Court, releasing a video highlighting her experience and commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of all Wisconsinites.

“I’m running for the Wisconsin Supreme Court because it has never been more important to have state courts dedicated to protecting fundamental rights and freedoms and holding people, and the government, accountable when they break the law,” said Judge Lyndsey Brunette. “Every person who enters a courtroom is seeking the same thing: fairness, justice, a system they can trust. That’s the kind of court I want to protect for every Wisconsinite, and for my own family. Whether it’s protecting personal healthcare rights, safeguarding voting rights, or supporting public safety, we need to protect a majority on our state Supreme Court who will fairly and impartially uphold our laws.”

A Clark County native and Circuit Court judge since 2018, Brunette has spent her career fighting for the people of Wisconsin. As a judge, she has presided over thousands of cases, delivering fair rulings and ensuring everyone in her courtroom has a voice. Brunette also started and presides over the county’s first drug treatment court.

Before joining the bench, she was first elected as a Democrat to serve as Clark County district attorney in 2012, becoming the first woman to hold that position. As district attorney she prosecuted serious crimes, including homicides, sexual assaults, and domestic abuse cases.

Prior to running for office, Brunette worked as Clark County corporation counsel, representing the county’s most vulnerable residents in mental health, elder care, and child protective proceedings. She began her legal career at the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis under then-County Attorney Amy Klobuchar where she worked in the Gang Unit and the Adult Violent Crimes division.

Judge Brunette is also active in the legal community statewide, currently serving on Wisconsin Judicial Commission on Child Welfare, Juvenile Jury Instruction Committee, Judicial Conference Executive Committee, and Department of Children and Families Judicial Workgroup, among others.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. Judge Brunette lives with her husband Jake and their five children in Neillsville, Wisconsin.
