Former Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney Endorses Judge Lyndsey Brunette for Wisconsin Supreme Court
Longtime Wisconsin law enforcement leader cites Brunette's prosecutorial record and commitment to public safety
MADISON, Wis. – Former Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney today endorsed Clark County Circuit Court Judge Lyndsey Brunette for Wisconsin Supreme Court, praising her record as a prosecutor and her deep understanding of how the justice system affects people and communities across the state.
“I’ve spent my career working alongside prosecutors, judges, and law enforcement officers who are committed to keeping Wisconsin communities safe. I know Judge Lyndsey Brunette is exactly the kind of person we need on our state’s highest Court to uphold the law and protect the rights of every Wisconsinite,” said former Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney. “She knows what it takes to hold dangerous people accountable, and she knows what fairness looks like from inside a real courtroom. She also understands the challenges our criminal justice systems face, in rural and urban counties, and will bring that important perspective to the Court. Wisconsin needs a justice who has done the hard work and I’m proud to endorse Judge Brunette in this race.”
Mahoney served as Dane County Sheriff for 15 years, building a reputation as a leader focused on community safety, accountability, and smart, effective law enforcement. His endorsement adds to growing support for Judge Brunette’s candidacy.
“Sheriff Mahoney has dedicated his life to public safety and to building communities where people feel protected and heard,” said Judge Lyndsey Brunette. “That’s exactly what I’ve tried to do. First, as a prosecutor, going after the most serious crimes, and now as a judge ensuring everyone who walks into my courtroom is heard and treated fairly. I’m honored to have his endorsement.”
Before her election to the Clark County Circuit Court in 2018, Brunette served as Clark County District Attorney from 2013 to 2017, becoming the first woman to hold that office. As DA, she prosecuted serious crimes including homicides, sexual assaults, and domestic abuse cases. She also served as Clark County Corporation Counsel, representing vulnerable residents in mental health, elder care, and child protective proceedings, and began her career at the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis under then County Attorney Amy Klobuchar where she worked in the Gang Unit and the Adult Violent Crimes division.
Brunette has previously announced support from 31 current and former judges, former Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton, and legal and community leaders from across the state.
