Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Supports Sen. Rand Paul’s Bill to End Welfare for Non-Citizens Act, Highlights Need for Private Alternatives

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) proudly endorses the End Welfare for Non-Citizens Act, introduced by Senator Rand Paul (R-KY). This bill prohibits federal funds from providing welfare benefits—including TANF, Medicaid, SNAP, cash assistance, and tax credits—to refugees, asylees, or individuals in the U.S. without citizenship.

“Government assistance is funded through coercion,” said Reese Wood, Chairman of LPWI. “No Wisconsinite should be forced to subsidize benefits for non-citizens or citizens. Senator Paul’s legislation rightly ends this involuntary wealth transfer and moves us toward fiscal sanity amid a $38 trillion national debt.”

Libertarians oppose all taxpayer-funded welfare, regardless of citizenship. In a free society, assistance should come voluntarily through private markets and charity, not government mandate. This bill represents a crucial first step toward eliminating the government’s monopoly on assistance, allowing churches, mutual aid societies, crowdfunding, and innovative private enterprises to provide more efficient, dignified, and compassionate support without bureaucratic waste or moral hazard.

By eliminating government handouts, this bill removes perverse incentives that distort immigration while preserving true freedom: anyone may come to America and work, but no one is entitled to live at taxpayers’ expense. Private markets will naturally respond with affordable housing, healthcare, and opportunities for those willing to contribute.

The LPWI urges Senators Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson to co-sponsor this common-sense reform. Wisconsin families deserve a government that respects their earnings and encourages genuine private-sector solutions over forced redistribution.
