The David Barnett Gallery presents original lithographs by the master colorist, modernist, and major Jewish artist. His works are infused with vibrant pigment, which prompted Picasso to remark in the 1950s, “When Matisse dies, Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what color really is.” The exhibition will explore the artist’s visionary lyricism in luminous color, filled with symbols from his childhood in Vitebsk, Russia; his beloved Paris; as well as angels; his wife; and circus performers. The cosmos of his art has a fantastical, fairytale quality that is strikingly modern. Opening on Gallery night Oct. 17th and running through Jan. 13th!
