WisDems Chair, Northwest Wisconsin Leaders Respond to Tom Tiffany’s Gubernatorial Campaign Announcement
MADISON, Wis. — Today, WI-07 Representative, and former state assembly member, Tom Tiffany announced his campaign for governor. Tiffany has an extreme track record that includes strongly backing the Tariff Taxes that are raising prices for Wisconsin families, passing the Big Ugly Bill, which jeopardizes health care for 275,000 Wisconsinites and threatens the food security of around 700,000, and voting to ban abortions before a woman even knows they’re pregnant.
“Tariff Lover Tom has been jacking up prices on Wisconsin families with his blind support for a trade war that is making everything from beer to beef to school supplies way more expensive — working Wisconsin families can’t afford Tariff Lover Tom being in charge,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Devin Remiker. “Tariff Lover Tom has shown us who he really is — a bought and paid for stooge who will vote to take health care and food security away from children, the elderly, and veterans to give billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. We’re going to show Wisconsinites what a fraud he is and defeat him next November.”
In the most recent statewide elections, Republicans coalesced around self-funding and right-wing candidates who couldn’t win a general election — and Tom Tiffany won’t have the same available resources and is even more extreme.
The WisDems, alongside Gov. Tony Evers, recently launched the Wisconsin Gov Readiness Project, which will build a campaign-like infrastructure around their eventual nominee, as well as research and hold Tom Tiffany and the other GOP candidates accountable. This is a collaboration that that will impact the outcome of this election, and those down the ballot, in all 72 counties.
See below for comments from local leaders in Tiffany’s community and additional background:
Nancy Stencil, 7th Congressional District Chair: “Tom Tiffany is an extremist who cannot even perform the most basic function of his job as WI-07’s Congressman — representing the will and opinions of his constituents — and cannot be trusted to hold Wisconsin’s highest office. While we doubt he is ever there, every time we’ve tried to speak with our Congressman, Tom Tiffany, at his office, he’s turned the sprinklers on us. If he’s too chicken to talk to us, how is he going to face Wisconsinites across the state?”
Gloria Hochstein, WisDems Rural Caucus Chair: “Tom Tiffany sold out rural Wisconsinites with his vote for the Big Ugly Bill, which gutted funding for the all too few health centers we have in rural Wisconsin. He gets a taxpayer-funded salary and taxpayer-funded healthcare, unlike the rest of us, and he doesn’t seem to comprehend or notice the dramatic impact his voting for the Big Ugly Bill and voting for tariff taxes has on the average Wisconsin resident’s healthcare and living expenses. We are losing our hospitals and clinics and birthing centers, and we are all paying more just to get by each day. Perhaps all that time in DC has made Tom Tiffany forget what it means to be a Wisconsinite all together. He certainly has no business being our governor.”
- Tom Tiffany Cheered Skyrocketing Tariffs That Threaten Wisconsinites And Wisconsin Businesses With Steep Price Hikes. Tiffany has bragged at length about supposed benefits of Donald Trump’s sky-high tariffs, despite their brutal real-life impact raising the cost of goods and further squeezing America’s manufacturing industry.
- Tom Tiffany Wants To Eliminate Reproductive Healthcare. Tom Tiffany has proudly received endorsements from hardline anti-reproductive-healthcare groups, and repeatedly pushed legislation to nationally ban abortion as early as 6 weeks into pregnancy.
- Tom Tiffany Has A Long Anti-Worker Record, And Proudly Touted His Opposition To Legislation That Would Expand Wisconsinites’ Right To Organize Their Workplaces. Tiffany proudly opposed raising the minimum wage, opposed ensuring organizing rights for federally contracted construction laborers, opposed the PRO Act, and tried to undercut teachers striking for safer school conditions.
- Tom Tiffany Supported Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” To Cut Medicaid & SNAP. Tiffany voted twice for the budget bill, and cheered on Sen. Ron Johnson’s efforts to make the bill’s cuts even harsher.
