Madison, WI – Today, Wisconsin Assembly and Senate Democrats introduced 4 bills that would restore the prevailing wage, repeal the right-to-work law, address worker misclassification, and reinstate project labor agreements. Representative Shelia Stubbs (D-Madison) released the following statement:

“Today I am proud to join my Democratic colleagues in introducing 4 bills that will strengthen protections for the hardworking members of our Wisconsin workforce and ensure they are fairly compensated for their labor. My district contains the Labor Temple in South Madison, and as a former union member and a gubernatorial appointee to the Governor’s Council on Workforce Investment, I am committed to supporting and introducing policy that promotes safe working environments, fair wages, and professional development opportunities for all workers.

By restoring the prevailing wage and reinstating project labor agreements, we will ensure that workers on publicly funded projects receive competitive wages and benefits while establishing consistent rules and regulations for public construction projects including working conditions, safety protocols, frameworks for project budgets, and union wages. By repealing the right-to-work law and addressing worker misclassification, we will promote the ability of workers to organize and advocate for safe workplaces and fair wages, while preventing workers from losing out on benefits, overtime pay, labor rights, and anti-discrimination protections due to misclassification.

To build thriving communities, we must support fair wages and safe working environments for the entire Wisconsin workforce. I will continue to work with my colleagues in the Legislature to improve working conditions for all my constituents.”
