Brookfield, WI – Hunzinger Construction Company, a trusted leader in the construction industry since 1907, is proud to announce a leadership transition that marks the next chapter in its storied family legacy. Matt Hunzinger has been named President of Hunzinger Denver, Scott Wendt has been named President of Hunzinger Milwaukee and David Tengler will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Hunzinger’s Milwaukee office. John will continue to work closely with Matt, Scott and David as they assume these leadership roles. This transition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to thoughtful succession planning, stability, and the enduring values that have guided its success for more than 118 years.
Beyond the numbers, John’s tenure has been marked by an ambitious expansion of the company’s service offerings—broadening capabilities to meet the evolving needs of clients and positioning Hunzinger as a trailblazer in the field of Sustainable Building and Green Building Practices and technology in all aspects of construction. Hunzinger has invested significant time and resources into the successful implementation of its own trademarked process known as Virtual Design & Construction Coordination®, (V.D.C.C.). Equally significant has been his focus on enhancing Hunzinger’s reputation as unconditionally dedicated to achieving excellence in the marketplace by understanding and exceeding customer expectations through integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct.
Now as Scott Wendt steps into the role of President of Hunzinger Construction Company and Matt Hunzinger of Hunzinger’s Denver Office, they bring a deep connection to the company and a fresh perspective rooted in hands-on experience. As great-grandson of our founder, Matt has been immersed in the company since his high school and college summers. Upon graduation for Colorado State University where he earned a B.S. in Construction Management, Matt has lived and worked in Colorado. Since 2016, Matt has run Hunzinger’s Denver office and has driven its growth. He has served Colorado clients such as Empower, United Launch Alliance, Comcast, Uline, Denver Broncos, Centennial Realty Advisors, Audi/Volkswagen, BMO, Denver International Airport, Hyatt Hotels, University of Colorado and IHG Hotels & Resorts.
New COO Executive Vice President, David Tengler started at Hunzinger as an intern 18 years ago while at UW–Madison and was hired full-time as an Assistant Project Manager with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He rose through the company and became an accomplished Project Manager. Three years ago, David was promoted to Vice President/Project Executive and took on additional operational duties like recruiting, training and evaluating project management staff, coordinating company operations and strategic planning efforts. David embraces technology and strives to continually improve Hunzinger’s construction management process. David’s clients include JCI Worldwide Headquarters, Milwaukee Art Museum and Uline, having managed their last 6 Warehouse and Distribution Center Facilities. He is currently overseeing Foxtown Landing in downtown Milwaukee and Uline’s new H4 Corporate Office in Pleasant Prairie.
According to Hunzinger Chairman and CEO John Hunzinger, “Matt, Scott and David bring decades of experience in the construction industry. They know our business, our people, and our values. I have full confidence and trust in their leadership. We will all continue to always Do the Right Thing each and every day.”
This transition ensures continuity of purpose and values while positioning Hunzinger Milwaukee and Denver for continued growth, innovation, and success.
