Sculpture Milwaukee Spring Campaign Announcement and Upcoming Panel Discussion
Sculpture Milwaukee launches spring campaign to support Glass Spiral by Meg Webster in Museum Center Park, announces panel discussion about the sculpture's history with Milwaukee
Since it was commissioned by Sculpture Milwaukee and installed in Museum Center Park last year, “Glass Spiral,” a water- and plant-filled ecosystem by the esteemed multi-media artist Meg Webster, has become a destination for contemplating the ever-changing play between nature and the built environment. Viewers circle and stroll into the piece, which coils like a mollusk shell, mesmerized by the experience of becoming a new moving part of this reengineered version of a smaller “Glass Spiral” of Webster’s that the Milwaukee Art Museum commissioned in 1990.
Support the Spiral:
As “Spiral” settles into its second season, Sculpture Milwaukee is seeking support from the community to add more native perennial plants to those already growing around the iconic piece and to help maintain its carefully balanced glass and water components for years to come.
We’re excited to announce the launch of The Spiral’s Path: Cultivating Renewal, our spring campaign, running now through May 16, to revitalize this iconic sculpture and deepen its roots in our community. This breathtaking work connects us to our city’s rich artistic history in a truly unique way. And by contributing to our replanting campaign, donors will not only help us purchase additional plants but directly support the long-term vitality of this important work by Webster.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our partner, Hawks Landscape, donors can also double their impact. Throughout the campaign, Hawks will match contributions, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000. As a company deeply invested in the beauty and vibrancy of Milwaukee, Hawks Landscape shares our passion for enriching the city’s cultural environment and making art accessible to all. This matching gift demonstrates their dedication to our shared vision. Sculpture Milwaukee is grateful to Hawks Landscape for their support and for the support of all our partners and neighbors. Thank you!

Sculpture Milwaukee Talks: Meg Webster and Milwaukee
Thursday, May 22, 2025, 6 – 7 PM (doors open at 5:30)
Women’s Club of Wisconsin
813 E. Kilbourn Ave., Milwaukee, WI
Join Sculpture Milwaukee at the Women’s Club of Wisconsin for a panel discussion with former Sculpture Milwaukee curator Michelle Grabner and the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Senior Curator of Contemporary Art Margaret Andera. This free public talk, moderated by Sculpture Milwaukee Executive Director John Riepenhoff, will illuminate the work and creative vision of Meg Webster, an artist closely affiliated with post-minimalism and the Land Art movement of the 1970s. Webster has long been guided by an environmentalist approach to celebrating and advocating for nature. The talk will cover Webster’s unique contributions to American art and the special relationship she’s had with Milwaukee since 1990, when the Milwaukee Art Museum commissioned the first version of “Glass Spiral.” This event is made possible by the generous support of the Women’s Club of Wisconsin and the Women’s Club of Wisconsin Foundation.
