Mitchell Earns MU’s President’s Award at Marquette Athletics Annual Blue & Golden Globes
Marquette’s annual athletics banquet was held Sunday night at Harley-Davidson Museum
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its annual Blue & Golden Globes banquet on Sunday night at The Garage on the campus of the Harley-Davidson Museum in downtown Milwaukee.
The Ralph H. Metcalfe Senior Awards were given in addition to the President’s Award from Dr. Kimo Ah Yun and the annual awards voted on by MU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Women’s volleyball senior Yadhira Anchante earned the Metcalfe Senior Female Athletic Award after being a First Team All-BIG EAST performer and an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selection. Anchante is one of three players in program history to record over 3,000 digs.
Men’s basketball senior guard Kam Jones earned the Metcalfe Senior Male Athletic award. Jones was a consensus second team all-American selection and a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection after the 2024-25 season. Jones was one of five finalists for the Bob Cousy Award presented to the nation’s top point guard.
The Metcalfe Senior Male and Female Academic Awards were awarded to Max Lyons of men’s golf and Julia O’Neill from women’s soccer. Lyons is a Finance major in the AIM program and has a 3.9 overall GPA. After graduation, Lyons will pursue professional golf opportunities. O’Neill is a nursing major who has a 3.9 overall GPA. After graduation, O’Neill will work at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin as a NICU nurse.
Stevie Mitchell and Maggie Starker of women’s soccer earned the Metcalfe Leadership Awards.
Mitchell has chaired the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for SAAC and represented the BIG EAST Conference on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group. Mitchell’s volunteer work includes SHARP Literacy, wheelchair basketball, Milwaukee’s Juneteenth parade, the Salvation Army and Shopping with the Golden Eagles.
Starker has been an active member of SAAC for the past two years and currently serves as the vice president of finance. Starker has also contributed to the department through her work with the Blue & Gold fundraising team and as an athletics tutor. She has volunteered with Reading with the Golden Eagles, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Milwaukee Boys and Girls Club and Milotso.
