IMAGE Studios Celebrates Victory as Wauwatosa Approves Tattoo and Body Art Ordinance

Wauwatosa, WI – In a groundbreaking decision on February 25, 2025, the Wauwatosa Common Council voted to amend the city’s ordinance, now allowing tattoo and body art establishments to operate within city limits. This change is the result of collaborative efforts between IMAGE Studios, a premier salon suite concept, and city officials.

The amendment was spearheaded by IMAGE Studios in response to unexpected challenges one of their beauty professionals, tattoo artist Brittany of Tyranicorn Tattoo, met when planning to relocate her business from Madison to Wauwatosa. As Brittany approached her opening date with IMAGE Studios, the Wauwatosa Health Department denied her permit, citing the city’s previous ban on tattooing.

Bobbie Peters, IMAGE Studios’ leasing manager, took immediate action by reaching out to Wauwatosa city officials to advocate for a zoning change. The company’s proactive approach and commitment to supporting their beauty and wellness professionals played a crucial role in bringing about this ordinance amendment.

“We’re thrilled that the Wauwatosa Common Council recognized the importance of allowing diverse businesses to thrive in our community,” said Bobbie Peters. “This change not only benefits Brittany but opens doors for other talented artists in the tattoo and body art industry.”

The council’s decision reflects a progressive adaptation in local business regulations, with one council member stating, “We shouldn’t discriminate against businesses based upon what type of business it is, unless it’s illegal.” The proposal passed with a strong 4 to 1 majority, signaling broad support for the change.

This ordinance amendment aligns with Wauwatosa’s commitment to fostering a vibrant business environment while maintaining community values. It also demonstrates the city’s adaptability in response to changing beauty industry trends and the needs of its residents.

IMAGE Studios is at the forefront of supporting beauty professionals and advocating for positive change in the communities they serve. With this new ordinance in place, Wauwatosa will welcome a new wave of artistic talent and entrepreneurship in the tattoo, permanent makeup, and body art sectors.
