MADISON – This afternoon, the Wisconsin State Assembly convened for legislature floor session. Assembly Joint Resolution 5, to recognize February 2025 as Black History Month in Wisconsin, passed by a voice vote.

“I am so glad that we are finally able to bring this bipartisan effort to the floor of the Assembly, without all of the challenges we’ve had in previous session,” said Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde. “Black History Month is ultimately about presentation, it’s about the presentation of the Black history you learn all year long, not just in one month. And now that the GOP is finally agreeable to passing this resolution, I wonder if they’re also ready to finally get to work addressing the vast racial inequities in the state of Wisconsin…because as the Honorable Dr. Carter G Woodson said: ‘no work, no celebration.’”

Representative Moore Omokunde represents the 17th Assembly District on the North and Northwest sides of Milwaukee.
