Milwaukee Wine Academy Hosts ‘Black Wine Producers’

MILWAUKEE [February 11, 2025] — The Milwaukee Wine Academy (MWA) proudly announces the return of its popular event, Black Wine Producers. It will be held Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2pm at Radio Milwaukee, in collaboration with HYFIN, a Radio Milwaukee Station.

This second annual event will continue MWA’s tradition of exploring exceptional wines from around the world. This weekend, guests will be provided four pours from Black vintners and producers learning of their rich heritage, talent and contributions. The special tasting will be led by MWA co-founder and Spanish Wine Scholar Dr. Jeffrey Coleman.

The event will also feature:

• Guest Interviews feat. Big-League Distributing: Wisconsin’s first minority-owned alcohol distributor in Metro-Milwaukee. Founded by Krishan Mehta, Larry Hisle, Jr. & James Burnett III, the latter two associates of MLB manager Dusty Baker.
• Networking Opportunities: Connecting with fellow wine lovers, professionals, and advocates for representation.
• Local Vendors feat. Tranquil Blends, Baker Family Wines, and HoneyBee Sage Wellness & Apothecary Cafe: To stimulate the local economy and hear from black voices in traditional and non-alcoholic wine, attendees can meet local vendors and place orders for their products.

Why does this matter?

In 2023, it was estimated that there were only 100 Black-owned wineries in the United States, which translates to fewer than one-percent (CNN). Proudly, Milwaukee Wine Academy is the only wine school in the Midwest to offer a Spanish Wine Scholar program.
