Senate Democrats Launch New Compete Everywhere Fund

MADISON, Wis –  Today, the Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Committee officially launched a new initiative, the Compete Everywhere Fund, spearheaded by former candidates Kelly Peterson (SD-02), Paul Hambleton (SD-10) and Andi Rich (SD-12). This new program will primarily focus on recruiting and supporting candidates in more conservative leaning districts with the goal of running well-funded, professional campaigns in every district across the state, regardless of its political leaning.

“When we decided to run for State Senate last year in tough, Republican-held districts, we were under no illusions of what an uphill battle we faced,” said former candidates Peterson, Hambleton, and Rich. “But we were determined to give voters a choice between the failed policies of our former opponents and a new, fresh vision for Wisconsin. And while we weren’t successful in November, the Wisconsin Senate was a bright spot, nationally, for Democrats – breaking the Republican supermajority, flipping four seats, defending all incumbents, and in a position to take the majority in 2026.”

“With 2024 behind us, we’re thrilled to be working with Senate Democrats to launch this new initiative at SSDC, where we’ll start today, almost two years out from our next election cycle, raising money, talking to voters and recruiting candidates to run in districts like ours. We know they might not be successful, but we’re committed to giving voters a choice and moving the needle in districts across Wisconsin – not just the hyper-competitive ones.”

Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein added, “Senate Democrats owe our success last cycle due in part to candidates like Kelly, Paul, and Andi. They ran tough races, worked around the clock to earn every vote, and were phenomenal fits for their districts. I’m excited to see that they are staying engaged and are committed to helping the next wave of candidates in 2026 run competitive races.”
