Milwaukee County’s 2024 Budget Positioned to Balance Without Additional Taxpayer Impact

By - Sep 5th, 2024 11:50 am

MILWAUKEE – During today’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Task Force meeting, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s administration presented a proposal that would balance Milwaukee County’s 2024 budget. Milwaukee County Board Supervisor and Co-Chair of the ARPA Taskforce Shawn Rolland made the following statement:

“Milwaukee County’s 2024 budget is well-positioned to balance by year-end thanks to the outstanding work of County Executive Crowley, the County Board, and our talented county staff. The budget-balancing proposal shared today would maintain programs, retain staff, and continue to invest in priorities like affordable housing without asking taxpayers for a dime. The county hasn’t always kept the public’s trust, but this group of Milwaukee County leaders is distinct and different – they continue to make strategic and fiscally responsible decisions,” said Rolland.

This plan comes in response to a projected year-end deficit ranging from $17 $19 million, caused by declines in sales tax revenue, rising health care costs, and overtime expenditures in the Office of the Sheriff and the Community Reintegration Center.

The full details of the deficit reduction proposal can be found here.
