Supervisor Martin Issues Statement on Dineen Park Shooting
MILWAUKEE – Supervisor Felesia Martin issued the following statement on the shooting in Dineen Park on July 22, 2024:
“I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young woman who lost her life in the tragic event on July 22, 2024, in Dineen Park. I also hope for the swift recovery of the others affected. Our parks should be safe, fun, and vibrant places
for everyone to enjoy without fear or intimidation. I am truly sorry that our residents have had to endure these unsettling circumstances.
“Dineen Park remains open for public use daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. I want to remind everyone that guns are strictly prohibited in our parks, according to County ordinances.
“While we work through this issue, I believe that over-policing is not the solution. Instead, we must focus on strengthening family, community, and educational institutions to protect our neighborhoods. It is imperative that we adopt an all-hands-on-deck
approach to address the issues we are facing across District 7.
“I will be hosting an upcoming community meeting to discuss these concerns and solutions. This meeting will include representatives from the Milwaukee County Parks Department, Alderwoman Moore, the Dineen Park Neighborhood Association, the Milwaukee County
Sheriff’s Office, behavioral health experts, the Milwaukee Police Department, and other community resources. We will announce the details of the meeting soon.
