Newly renovated Carmen Playfield celebrates grand opening in Havenwoods neighborhood

Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr. joined representatives from MPS Rec and others in the community to celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Carmen Playfield located at 7320 W. Carmen Ave. The space has a variety of new amenities after undergoing a recent remodel. The goal of the project was to create a recreation space that supports the diversity of users in the Havenwoods neighborhood.

This playfield now features an upgraded walking loop, age-appropriate playground equipment, a splash pad, basketball practice play areas, shade structures, a multi-purpose field, an Aventus basketball wall, and Tuj Lub courts (Tuj Lub is a popular Hmong game; the courts at Carmen will be the fourth of their kind in the entire country.) New and upgraded site amenities were added including lighting, benches and trash receptacles.

“Play spaces such as Carmen hold an important place within the community. They offer young people a place to feel safe and express themselves while also developing social skills. Additionally, they offer a gathering space for other residents and groups within the neighborhood,” said Alderman Chambers. “I’m particularly proud of this updated play space in the 2^nd District, and I want to thank MPS Rec and all the project partners for their work in crafting a space we can truly be proud of.”
