Brewers to Honor Bill “Rock” Schroeder’s 30th Season in the Broadcast Booth

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers will celebrate broadcaster Bill “Rock” Schroeder’s 30th season in the booth as a color commentator, this Friday, June 14 as the Crew takes on the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m.

The celebration will commence with a special hour-long Bally’s pregame show beginning at 6 p.m. with Schroeder’s past play-by-play partners Jim Paschke (1995-96), Matt Vasgersian (1997-2001), Daron Sutton (2002-2006) and Matt Lepay (2014-2021) joining the broadcast, and later in the booth to each call an inning throughout the telecast.

The long-time broadcaster will be surrounded by friends, family and his former play-by-play partners on the field and will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Schroeder joined the TV broadcast team in 1995 following a distinguished playing career as a catcher. Schroeder spent eight seasons (1983-90) in the majors with the Brewers and California Angels, including a career year in 1987 in which he batted .332 with 42 RBI and a career-high 14 HR. He caught the first no hitter in franchise history, thrown by Juan Nieves in Baltimore on April 15, 1987. In addition to catching the first no hitter in franchise history, Rock was on the call for the second no-hitter in franchise history, a combined no-no on Sept. 11, 2021, in Cleveland.

Rock has been an instrumental part of the broadcast team throughout many significant club milestones including the Brewers first game in the National League Central Division (March 31, 1998), as the Brewers opened Miller Park (April 6, 2001), when the Brewers established a franchise record for wins (96-66, 2011) to capture their first National League Central championship, and as the Brewers went on an 18-2 run in September to help capture the second National League Wild Card spot and qualify for the postseason in consecutive years for just the second time in franchise history (2019).

Schroeder is also recognized for his involvement in community and charitable activities, particularly in support of organizations focused on improving health and education for children. His commitment extends beyond the baseball field, positively impacting the community.

In recognition of Schroeder’s long-serving tenure on the broadcast team, he was enshrined on the Brewers Wall of Honor on July 17, 2015.
