Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Driver goes “On the Issues” to discuss challenges, vision for district’s future

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver will be the featured guest of an upcoming “On the Issues with Mike Gousha,” Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.

Driver is faced with several challenges in her new role at MPS, including improving student graduation rates and test scores, competing for students with voucher and charter schools and changing public perceptions about the district. But in a recent interview, she called this an “exciting time for education” in Milwaukee. Driver will share her vision for MPS during this visit to Marquette Law School.

Driver came to MPS two years ago to become the district’s first chief innovation officer. She became interim superintendent when Dr. Gregory Thornton announced he was leaving for Baltimore, and she was named permanent superintendent this past fall.
