Alverno Community Conference Will Focus on Building a Stronger Milwaukee
Milwaukee, (March 15, 2022) – Alverno College will host its annual Community Conference on Friday, April 22, as part of the college’s Alum Teach & Learn Weekend. This year’s theme is “Building a Stronger Milwaukee,” and participants will explore the challenges facing the city and potential solutions in regards to safety, education and community development. The conference will be held in-person with virtual options.
The event will begin with a keynote panel featuring three highly regarded community leaders with decades of collective experience. Panelists include:
- Sister MacCanon Brown, a nationally recognized champion and advocate for the homeless with decades of experience serving the community and helping to meet the needs of thousands of homeless individuals.
- Dr. Howard Fuller, a nationally known distinguished professor of education, founder/director of the Institute for the Transformation of Learning at Marquette University and former superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools.
- Marjorie Rucker, executive director of The Business Council, Inc. (TBC), and chair of the Ethnic & Diverse Business Coalition (EDBC), who has nearly 20 years of community and economic development experience in Milwaukee.
The panel will be moderated by James Causey, an award-winning reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel who has spent more than 30 years generating community conversations on urban youth, mental health, employment, housing and incarceration.
