MILWAUKEE, Oct. 7, 2021 — The Dominican Center (DC) is pleased and honored to announce it has received a generous $32,500 grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation for Amani housing support.

DC is committed to providing encouragement, opportunities, training, resources and seats at the table to help Amani residents revitalize their neighborhood. DC works with the Amani United neighborhood association’s Housing and Economic Development committee to secure funds to create and complete projects that support the Amani Revitalization plan, a document written with resident input that is designed to provide a plan to build a better future. DC has also worked with neighborhood partners on the Block by Block initiative, which aims to revitalize the entire community, one block at a time.

This generous grant will allow DC to continue providing housing resources and access for residents to housing programs and neighborhood partners who offer beneficial services that support the Amani Revitalization Plan. DC believes hometown neighborhoods provide a safe, clean and environmentally healthy ecosystem where residents can live in a comfortable home, connect socially, access fresh food and engage in recreational and civic activities. DC strives to make sure that families are assured access to quality services and all members of the family are nurtured, encouraged and secure.

“We can’t do this work alone. We’re so grateful that Greater Milwaukee Foundation has generously invested in the work we’re doing to support our residents,” said Dominican Center Executive Director Maricha Harris. “Stable, quality housing is essential and foundational to healthy communities. We look forward to working with our partner Legal Aid Society to offer housing assistance to Amani residents.”

For more than a century, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation has helped individuals, families and organizations realize their philanthropic goals and make a difference in the community, during their lifetimes and for future generations. The Foundation consists of more than 1,400 individual charitable funds, each created by donors to serve the charitable causes of their choice. The Foundation also deploys both human and financial resources to address the most critical needs of the community and ensure the vitality of the region. Established in 1915, the Foundation was one of the first community foundations in the world and is now among the largest.
