Supervisor Taylor Proposal to Implement Register of Deeds Audit Recommendation Adopted by County Board
MILWAUKEE – The County Board of Supervisors today unanimously adopted a proposal by Supervisor Sequanna Taylor to implement a key recommendation of the Audit Services Division’s February audit of former Register of Deeds John La Fave’s office.
“I sponsored this resolution to serve the best interests of Milwaukee County’s employees, vendors, and residents,” said Supervisor Taylor. “It is my goal to ensure that there is never another breach of the public’s trust and that we continue to be transparent with public dollars.”
In 2019, La Fave pleaded guilty to a federal felony count of wire fraud for his role in a $2.3 million false invoice operation with a vendor.
Supervisor Taylor’s resolution requests that a report be submitted to the Board of Supervisors for the September 2021 committee cycle with the proposed revisions or a status update on progress towards developing the revisions.
The revisions would then need approval from the Board of Supervisors.
