Rep. Robyn Vining Applauds Inclusion of Main Street Recovery Package in Wisconsin Act 1

MADISON – Yesterday, Governor Evers signed Assembly Bill 2 into law as Wisconsin Act 1, an omnibus tax bill which includes tax relief provisions that were originally introduced as the Main Street Recovery Package. This bill package was introduced and co-authored by Representative Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) last month, led by Representative Tip McGuire (D-Kenosha).

The key provisions from the Main Street Recovery Package include ensuring that Wisconsin businesses are not taxed on the state grants that they received from programs created using federal CARES Act funding, such as the We’re All In grants and Farm Support Grants. Additionally, the bill includes allowing individuals to claim their 2019 earned income for 2020 for the purpose of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which will put our state in line with the new federal Consolidated Appropriations Act. Rep. Vining issued the following statement in response:

“I am glad these critical provisions were included in Assembly Bill 2 with bipartisan support, and signed into law as Wisconsin Act 1. This is an important step forward in helping these small businesses weather the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. I appreciate my colleagues coming together to provide much needed tax relief to small businesses and working families during this incredibly difficult time.
