Statement from Rep. Barca on Assembly passage of amended oral chemo bill
Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) released the following statement after the Assembly passed an amended version of the oral chemotherapy bill.
MADISON – Assembly Democratic Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) released the following statement after the Assembly passed an amended version of the oral chemotherapy bill:
“At every turn, Democrats worked tirelessly for the goal of passing a clean oral chemo bill through the Assembly. The Senate overwhelmingly passed a clean bill and Gov. Walker said he would sign a clean bill.
“After passing a clean bill was no longer an option, in my discussions with Speaker Vos, he gave his word that the Assembly would not adjourn without getting oral chemo done. But even with the best intentions, it will not be easy. However, I intend to hold the Speaker to his word.
“After all the heartfelt stories from patients and survivors, as well as the significant public attention given to this bill in the past few days, the worst possible outcome would have been for no bill to pass, meaning nothing would get done to address the needs of cancer patients.”
