"It is important for us to lift up the work those who advocate for survivors of traumatic experiences."
MILWAUKEE – In observation of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Supervisor Sequanna Taylor presented three women who work as breast cancer awareness advocates or domestic violence awareness advocates with citations recognizing their accomplishments at today’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
“It is important for us to lift up the work those who advocate for survivors of traumatic experiences. Advocates like Cyrena Martin, LaVerne Badger, and Patti Hardy help survivors live life to its fullest and thrive in the face of adversity. It is my honor to recognize these strong and resilient women,” said Taylor.
Supervisor Taylor recognized Cyrena Martin, a domestic violence survivor and breast cancer awareness advocate who founded Mahogany C.A.R.E.S (Community Awareness Resources Education Support); LaVerne Badger, a domestic violence survivor, author of “Overcoming the Darkness: Surviving Domestic Violence,” and producer of the podcast ExPOSED, as well as the conversational platform “LaVerne’s Let’s Talk”; and Patti Hardy, a breast cancer survivor and advocate who volunteers with Conversations with Komen and who has dedicated herself to increasing breast cancer screenings and awareness for women under 40.
