UWM Alumni Association hosts panel discussion on 2020 Democratic convention
The convention, which takes place July 13-16, 2020, marks the first major political party convention in Milwaukee's history.
MILWAUKEE _ The UW-Milwaukee Alumni Association is hosting a panel discussion about the 2020 Democratic National Convention and its impact on the city and university on Thursday, Oct. 24.
“Milwaukee on the National Stage: What the 2020 Democratic National Convention Means to our City and UWM” is part of the Alumni Association’s Master Chats series. The convention, which takes place July 13-16, 2020, marks the first major political party convention in Milwaukee’s history. More than 50,000 people are expected to travel to Milwaukee for the convention, including delegates, media, volunteers and tourists.
Panelists include:
- Dave Larson, senior director, Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee
- Lafayette Crump, vice president of diversity, vendor accountability and growth, Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee
- Gale Klappa, executive chairman, WEC Energy Group
- Thomas Holbrook, UWM distinguished professor of political science and Wilder Crane professor of government
- Emily McElwee, executive director, East Town Association
They will discuss a range of topics including the importance of winning the host bid, the economic benefit for Milwaukee and how UWM will be impacted. The event will be moderated by Tom Luljak, UWM vice chancellor of university relations and communications. It will include a question-and-answer period for audience members.
The event is free but those interested in attending are asked to register on the Alumni Association website.
Master Chats is a series for advanced learning, featuring UWM distinguished professors and alumni speakers.
