Rep. Zamarripa Statement on President Trump’s Visit
"I am appalled at the president and his indifference to suffering."
MADISON – State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s visit to Wisconsin:
“I am appalled at the president and his indifference to suffering. He is in Wisconsin currently to raise money from wealthy donors. Meanwhile, there are still children being held in detention centers.
“There are children who don’t have access to proper health care, toothbrushes, soap or adequate food and water, all while they sleep on the ground. There are children, some of them infants, who are being traumatized at the hands of our government. We don’t even know exactly how many kids are being detained, if conditions are improving and many parents remain in the dark on where their children are and when they will see them again.
“Tonight there will be a nationwide call for the closure of these camps with events all over our state. Wisconsin is an inclusive place that historically stands up against injustice and bigotry. Wisconsin is not the place for someone who engages in such reckless cruelty.”
