George Webb Calls “5 for $5” Burger Deal to the Plate

Famous Promotion Begins in Celebration of Opening Day

MILWAUKEE (March 28, 2019) – Fresh off last year’s memorable postseason run, the Milwaukee Brewers prepare to take the field for Opening Day and begin a four-game home stand against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Crew’s return marks the start of another eagerly awaited Cream City fan-favorite, the famous “5 for $5” burger deal from George Webb Restaurants.

Just as they have in past seasons, when the team scores five or more runs – home or away, win or lose – all 30 George Webb locations will offer five burgers for $5 through midnight the following day.

George Webb, the restaurant’s namesake and founder, opened his first diner in 1948 on the corner of Ogden and Van Buren in Milwaukee with a mission to serve fresh, made-to-order food. Known for his commitment to friendly service and one-of-a-kind marketing, George Webb himself once promised the hometown team would win 12 games in a row, and when that happened, he would grill free hamburgers.

To this day, George Webb continues to honor its founder’s legendary pledge, with the first-ever giveaway occurring in 1987. The second giveaway took place just last year when the team caught fire shortly before the postseason and embarked on a 12-game winning streak.

Afterwards, restaurants across the state served 90,000 free hamburgers and distributed more than 100,000 redeemable vouchers to fans who wanted to claim their piece of history at a later date.

“Last season brought us an opportunity to celebrate and fulfill the promise of our founder with the next generation of fans,” said Ryan Stamm, vice president of George Webb Restaurants. “This season, we hope to see another year of twelve straight wins and will be ready to once again fire up the grill!”
