NEWaukee Announces Floating Lantern Celebration at the Eighth Annual Urban Island Beach Party
All proceeds from celebration to support Friends of Lakeshore State Park
Milwaukee, Wisc. July 30, 2018 – NEWaukee hosts the Eighth Annual Urban Island Beach Party located at Lakeshore State Park on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m, with the new addition of a Floating Lantern Celebration. At dusk, guests are invited to light and launch a floating lantern into the Lakeshore State Park inlet along with a wish that suits their desires.
The Urban Island Beach Party is free and open to the public for attendees and lantern spectators. To participate in the lantern celebration, guests are encouraged to pre-order their lantern online for $20 at www.urbanislandparty.com. Online sales end at midnight on Thursday, August 2nd. Only a limited number of lanterns are available for purchase on-site.
All proceeds from the Urban Island Beach Party benefit the Friends of Lakeshore State Park’s Sustain and Maintain campaign, which helps to preserve the urban oasis and provide educational opportunities for the community. Visit www.friendslsp.org/ to make a donation.
Attendees can watch live performances from Unity the Band, Hot by Ziggy, Foreign Goods, Marcus Doucette, Plaid Hawaii and the Hale O Malo Dance Group throughout the evening. Other activities include sunset yoga led by Becky Tesch, the Harley-Davidson JumpStart™ Rider Experience, kayaking led by Milwaukee Kayak Company and yard games.

The Friends of Lakeshore State Park is an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting Lakeshore State Park for the entire community to enjoy. What is the plan to collect the lanterns so they don’t become trash in the lake? I feel like an event put on by Friends of Lakeshore State Park’s Sustain and Maintain campaign would be forthcoming with offering insights about that part of the process.
