May 21 is first day for new MPS interim superintendent

Dr. Keith Posley sets priorities for success; visits schools

MILWAUKEE (Friday, May 18, 2018) — Dr. Keith P. Posley will officially lead Milwaukee Public Schools, the largest school district in Wisconsin, beginning May 21, 2018, as Interim Superintendent.

Dr. Posley started his career in MPS in 1990 as a school teacher at Franklin. He excelled as a teacher and became an assistant principal, principal and served in various district administrative roles. Dr. Posley most recently was Chief School Administration Officer and was charged with overseeing all 160 MPS schools and their school leaders.

“I am excited to begin my work as Interim Superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools,” said Dr. Posley. “Nothing is more important than the academic success of our young people. I am prepared to do whatever is necessary to make certain all students have access to opportunities that allow them to experience personal and academic success in Milwaukee Public Schools.”
Dr. Posley has identified Five Proprieties for Success that will be his focus as interim superintendent:

  • Increasing academic achievement and accountability
  • Improving district and school culture
  • Developing our staff
  • Ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency
  • Strengthening communication and collaboration

Dr. Posley will visit the following schools on May 21:

  • 7:30 a.m. – Benjamin Franklin School, 2308 W. Nash St.
  • 8:15 a.m. – Clarke Street School, 2816 W. Clarke St.
  • 1 p.m. – Forest Home Avenue School, 1516 W. Forest Home Ave.

Milwaukee Public Schools serves approximately 76,000 students in 160 schools. It is the largest school district in Wisconsin. Recent achievements include increased graduation rates, improved early literacy rates; greater access to more rigorous academic programs and extra-curricular opportunities; and improving community connections to bring more resources and support to the district’s schools and students.
