Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele Names New Director of Communications

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele announced today that Karina Henderson will be joining Milwaukee County as the new Director of Communications. Henderson joins Milwaukee County from the National Basketball Association Oklahoma City Thunder, where she served as Director of Corporate Communications.
Henderson, a Wauwatosa native, has extensive media and public relations experience with the Thunder, where she led day-to-day communications strategy, planning, and implementation. She was the principal author of all written external communications, distributed via community outreach, press releases, email marketing, social media, executive communications, business partner messaging, and marketing materials. In addition to her communications role, she was recognized on two occasions for her work moderating postgame press conferences during the NBA Western Conference finals.
Prior to joining the Thunder in 2011, Henderson served as Communications Officer for the Oklahoma State Insurance Department, and Communications & New Media Director for the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Said Henderson, “I’m proud and grateful for the opportunity to join County Executive Chris Abele’s office and serve my home community. Returning to public service and to Milwaukee County is incredibly meaningful to me, and I look forward to getting started.”
County Executive Abele noted “Karina brings a wealth of experience and spirit that will enhance our conversations with Milwaukee County’s residents, employers, and visitors. I’m looking forward to having her on our team.”
