County Executive Abele Thanks Legislators for Increasing Child Support Funding
Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele applauds members of the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee for putting money back into the budget to support Child Support funding across the state.
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele applauds members of the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee for putting money back into the budget to support Child Support funding across the state.
On Tuesday, the committee voted unanimously to increase funding from $5.7 million to $8.5 million. The bi-partisan plan will also bring in nearly $30 million in federal dollars. For Milwaukee County that translates into $2 million more a year.
“Child support is a program that makes an incredible impact on people’s lives; it makes families stronger, keeps people off of social programs and ensures that parents fulfill their obligations,” Abele said. “I am grateful to the many legislators on both sides of the aisle who listened to me make the case for more funding. I want to especially thank State Rep. Dale Kooyenga for his leadership on getting this through the committee.”
Last year, the Wisconsin’s Child Support program collected $23 million back to the state of Wisconsin in fees, birth expenses, and money owed to the state.
