In another sign that Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele is putting the County on the right path, Fitch Global Rating Agency has upgraded Milwaukee County’s bond rating from Negative to Stable.
In making their decision Fitch cited Abele’s “conservative budgeting and careful expenditure control” and gave credit to his 2013 Budget proposal that calls for no increase in property taxes and adds more money to the general fund balance and budgeted contingency reserve.
“This rating increase should assure taxpayers that we are doing everything we can to use their tax dollars wisely,” Abele said. “I look forward to working closely with the Comptroller and the County Board to keep moving us on a sustainable path.”
Fitch’s rating bump comes two years after they downgraded Milwaukee County and one year after Moody’s Investors Service downgraded the rating on the city of Milwaukee.
