County/City Parks Patrol Plan Will Save More than $5 Million Over Three Years
A just released analysis of the proposed Parks Patrol Plan between Milwaukee County and the City of Milwaukee shows that County taxpayers will save more than $5 million over three years.
A just released analysis of the proposed Parks Patrol Plan between Milwaukee County and the City of Milwaukee shows that County taxpayers will save more than $5 million over three years.
The independently elected Milwaukee County Comptroller released a report today that shows $1.5 million savings in the first year. Based on that number and average rising costs the following two years, County taxpayers will see savings from 2013 – 2015 of $5.2 million.
Under the proposal that the County Board is considering, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) will formally assume policing duties in 2013 at County Parks in the City of Milwaukee, including the Lakefront. Milwaukee Police will also handle cellular 911 calls made in the City of Milwaukee, eliminating the current step where the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office takes the calls and transfers them to Milwaukee.
The plan ensures the community will get better service in the Parks, the City will be compensated for their officers’ time in the Parks and the County will get increased transparency, save tax dollars, and be assured that tax dollars allotted for Parks patrol are spent on Parks patrol.
County Executive Abele is also proposing a $125,000 grant to be split among the suburban municipalities to recognize police services at County Parks they are already providing. The funding will be provided to the Intergovernmental Cooperating Committee (ICC) to determine distribution of the funds among the municipalities.
