Governor Walker and GOP Out of Touch With Wisconsin
"Governor Walker and the GOP could not be more wrong about the state of Wisconsin."
(MADISON) – Representative Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) expressed her disbelief after hearing Governor Walker’s State of the State Address earlier this afternoon.
“Governor Walker could not be any more out of touch with average Wisconsinites and the actual state of this State. And when you compare and contrast Governor Walker and the GOP’s supposed ‘successes’ with the ideals and values Democrats have been fighting for over the past six years, the difference could not be any more clear,” Representative Sargent said.
“We’ve introduced legislation to increase the minimum wage to $15 and championed hardworking Wisconsinites with bills like child care tax credits and supporting women-owned businesses. They gave $21 million in tax breaks to 11 people whose income is more than $35 million a year.”
“We’ve offered real solutions to solve student loan debt, make tuition more affordable for Wisconsin residents, and fully fund our public schools. They’ve attacked education at every level, cutting our University of Wisconsin system by more than $250 million, and gutting public education in favor of taxpayer-funded, unaccountable schools.”
“The list here is endless. Governor Walker and the GOP could not be more wrong about the state of Wisconsin. For the past six years, they’ve left hardworking Wisconsinites in the dust of extremism, and our people and our state are no better off than they were when Governor Walker took office. Our state deserves better. I look forward to continuing to provide a progressive alternative to this out-of-touch agenda.”
